will transactions become a form of acceptable expression? in many ways, it is true even today in the physical world. will it be amplified? on steroids on the internet that moves money at speed with disdain for the old financial walls and geographical boundaries.

Great read ser.

top-notch quality.

However, I am skeptical whether embedded markets will reach their full potential (giving NFT ptsd) or scale to become the dominant transaction layer on the web.

Also your thesis on shifting from attention-capture to transaction-enabled web is on the premise that all web attention is financialized

Lovely piece, stirred a lot of thoughts and made me pen down a continuation.

"The internet we’re on right now is not for people. It’s for devices.

Everyone keeps chopping internet history into Web1 / Web2 / Web3 / WebXYZ, and pitching it like software release notes.

Web1: read

Web2: read + write

Web3: read + write + own

Web5: read + write + own + Jack Dorsey tweets about sovereignty or whatever

Cute story. Looks smart on slides.

But it’s also a lie. The actual lineage is simpler and uglier:

Phase 1: Connect the machines.

Phase 2: Get humans to feed those machines.

Phase 3: Replace the humans.

That’s it.

Originally, the internet was built to move information between machines. We then duct-taped social layers on top of that and pretended this pipe was a “society.” Social media was never a town square. It was a high-frequency trading terminal where you were the asset."

Serf serving the algorithm.

I think of it as are you working above the algo or below the algo. With AI most people will be below the algo and need to figure out a way to be above.
